McKinley Elementary School Reviews

My son has been in McKinley for 3 and 4 yr old preschool and I could not say enough about how wonderful his teachers are. The experience has been so great for him, he loves school and loves his teachers, in fact he thinks he is taking them to kindergarten with him. The only reason he will not continue at McKinley is because we are planning to move to Riverview and want him to be in school with the children he will grow up with. If we could take McKinley there with us we would our experience has been that wonderful.. I will miss not seeing his teachers and the staff there everyday. I was attempting to get him into one of the other schools in Wyandotte and was the last parent to register therefore, I was moved to McKinley last minute and ended up being very grateful for that decision.

I am a parent of a Kindergarden student. We currently live in Southgate and decided to send her to McKinley school because of their reputation of being a great school. I also have a nephew that attends the school. He is in the second grade and doing great. I cannot say enough about how great the school is. The PTO is really awesome. They do great things for the students and the school. Just recently I received an email from the Principal (this happens every month) that the PTO Vice-President just received a grant from Lowe's Toolbox for Education to build an outdoor classroom & weather station. How cool is that?? Way to go Mrs. Farkas. Lastly, if you are looking for a school to send your children to, I suggest you take a look at Mckinley, you cannot find a better place.

I'm rating McKinley school as a parent of a Kindergarten student and a teacher who has taught there for 10 years. The school is outstanding! Children are given many unique opportunities for learning. Academics and meeting state standards are a top priority, however, developing the whole child is critical to every teacher. This is done through the use of Multiple Intelligences, Special Interest Groups, and portfolio conferences. We conference 3 times a year with the opportunity for a 4th conference upon request. The dedication of the staff, students, and PTO make this school the place to be!

I love McKinley. The staff are dedicated. The PTO is super strong. 'Interest Groups' are awesome. Children elect an activity of their choice to attend 2x a week. Each teacher leads a different group, such as Journalism, Drama, Science, Music, Computers, and many different learning experiences. Also, all kids are given oral presentation projects so they get early experience at public speaking. Also, beginning in first grade, kids keep their same teacher two years in a row. At the beginning of the 2nd year the teacher already knows all her students so more focus can be given to the academics, and not managing a new set of kids. There is an emphasis on kids developing their individual strengths. Kids are able to master the learning technique that works best for them. Also, lifeskills are incorporated into daily teaching to help kids become peacekeeping citizens preparing them for a better future.

Both of my children attend McKinley Elementary. My son is in the preschool program and my daughter is in First Grade. Great teachers, staff and strong PTO presence! Although we live in Wyandotte, McKinley is not our neighborhood school...it is truly worth the drive! Great school for children who excel...teachers are willing to take the extra step to challenge these type of children.

I had three daughters in McKinley, my eldest left for Wilson Middle School this year. Our family has been with the school for 7 years. I can't begin to say enough about McKinley & Dee Okray. The staff is so well picked; they work together like a well oiled machine. All the teachers in the school are very dedicated to each student and the better good of their education. I love the fact that children stay with their teachers for two years. This gives the parents a chance to really know their child s educator. This also gives the teacher an abundance of time to bond with your child discovering their needs. McKinley enthusiastically encourages parents to get involved. The school has an open door policy to all the parents. They welcome you to come and sit in the class room to help or just observe. Outstanding School!

I love this school. The best part is the fact they get to stay with the same teacher for 2 years at a time. The teacher really gets to know eack child this way.

McKinley and Dee Okray, the principal, have been wonderful for my two children. One child has moved on to middle school in our home district and misses the scholarship and McKinley family feeling. My son and I drive 40 min. to McKinley, and neither of us would ever dream of switching him to our closer neighborhood school. McKinley teaches and allows children to be wonderful people. All of the staff are wonderful and obviously chosen with great care. We miss Mrs. Sanok (ret.) greatly, and we wish she would come back though. We have great faith in and best wishes for those who follow. Both of my children are very bright, and they have blossomed with the care and high expectations from every staff member at McKinley.

My daughter has attended McKinley for two years and we are so happy. She loves going to school - never a problem getting her to go. She looks forward to the responsibility the teachers give the students - not quite like any other school - I love it and recommed it.

My son has been going for two years and loves every teacher he's had. The teachers helped me with any disipline problem my son had. I am glad to say that he is doing very well in school and at home. There are plenty of activities for the kids during and after school. My son loves the after school Karate. I also live out of the district and drive my son everyday.

This school is an awesome school. My children started this school 2 years ago. And I'm very pleased with the results of my children..Overall the teacher are great as well as the principal, I think that a little more discipline is needed in this school.

My son started McKinley in the first grade he is now in third grade, and he loves it so much that when we moved out of district about 25 minutes away I drive him back and forth because it is well worth it. Now my daughter just started Kindergarten and she also loves it, I will definitely continue to commute them!

I have a daughter who started there in kindergarten and now is entering 6th grade. The principal and staff are awesome. Can't say enough good things about them. The whole staff really love the students and their job. My boys went to a different elementary and I didn't see this kind of dedication there. Couldn't have asked for a better education then she has had. I'm going to be very sad when this school year is done and she has to move on to middle school even though I know the middle school is a good one. McKinley is just a hard act to follow for any school.
